A Birthday for the Three Year Old

8.17.2011

Yes, yes, I'm months behind again, but here is our fun day on Hallie's third birthday! It was our last big event in our apartment before we moved.

Hallie wore up to her floor covered in balloons. She thought it was so fun, and still talks about the the balloons fell from the sky on her birthday. I think this may become a family tradition, or we may have a disappointed little girl. :)

After we got Hallie up, and she figured out how to get through the balloons, we got dressed. Hallie loved her birthday crown and shirt. Then she called and talked to her dad on the phone, who may or may not have missed his flight home the night before and was stuck in Portland.

The night before I had baked the cakes to make her birthday cake, well I pulled the towel off to get the ready and our little birthday girl had already helped herself to cake. If it hadn't had been her birthday she would have been in big trouble!

A friend of ours does birthday candles at every meal, so we implemented that on this day too. Halllie loves donuts! So needless to say she was thrilled

Angela had come the night before to stay with Hallie while she slept and I ran to the store, then she stayed and helped me decorate. What an amazing friend I have! Hallie loved running back and forth through the streamers hanging from the ceiling.

Then, even though Daddy wasn't home yet, I let her open one present before we headed to the airport to get him.

We also needed to swing by Costco to pick up a few things for the big party later that night, and Hallie was thrilled that they were playing "Rapunzel" on the TV's. She still asks if it's on everytime we go to Costco and wants to go check. We also saw JJ at Costco, which made Hallie's day!

Then it was off to the airport to pick Eric up. Both of us were thrilled to have him home.

On the way home we decided to stop at Cafe Rio for lunch, and open a couple presents. We had a lot of fun, even though it was a crazy day. The guys sitting behind us were so cute to Hallie. They kept asking her to show her what she got, and were so excited for her. It really was darling.

Daddy brought Hallie a Minnie Mouse from Portland.

When we got home and were working on getting ready for Hallie's party, I went to go pull the Jell-o out, and realized Hallie had already dug into it too. What a little stinker!

Hallie finished up opening some presents when we got home. Jim and Jeni sent her this cute Oregon Ducks cheerleading outfit! It's very cute!

Then we headed to my parents, where the big party happened. We got everything set up and had a fun evening with our family and friends.

Then, we did the birthday cake (which we had to have made at Maceys, because of a certain little princess, but it worked.) After we sang and Hallie was leaning in to blow the candles out, both my dad and Adam said she was going ot catch her hair on fire. Not a second after they said that, her hair did in fact catch on fire. Eric quickly grabbed her hair with his hand and put it out. If you look very close in this picture you can see it.

Needless to say we had a very traumatized little girl. She was so incredibly lucky it wasn't worse. Her hair had fallen in her face, so her hair and eyelashes were singed, and she had one tiny little blister on her cheek. We were so lucky it wasn't any worse!

After we got her somewhat calmed down, we were able to distract her by opening presents.

A golf set from Chad and Angela! Maybe they can get one of the Patterson's to become golfers. :)

After Hallie opened this cute horse from Nick & Ela, she said "look it's Max!" She was thrilled to have her Max horse from Tangled! It was darling!

Cute, cute Zack!

With Chad and La La!

The last activity of the Tangled filled night was floating lanterns! We were so excited to end the night with these. I had bought three, one for each year.

Well, they didn't work out so well. We decided it was just too hot. We only got one to actually float, and it floated away, and onto a neighbors roof. It was not a good night for us with fire. :) Luckily it burnt out on it's own and didn't create any problems.

After that experience we decided it wasn't worth trying to get the other up in the air. One of the kids said something about that they thought we were going to do more, I guess Hallie said "they aren't working, bummer huh?". What a funny little girl we have!

Grandma had a couple other presents for Hallie to open once she got into her pajamas. She was such a spoiled little girl. :)

After getting all cleaned up and headed out, Hallie was exhausted! It had been a big day for a new three year old! She fell asleep very quickly and was all snuggled up with Rapunzel. Even though it had it's ups and downs it turned out to be a great day!

Wow what a day! I love how she got into all the food- that is what I like to do on my birthday, eat and eat and eat! Also can't believe her hair caught on fire! That will be a great story in years to come. You're an amazing mom and what a great little girl!
