Broken

2.2.2010

Tuesday night Hallie was playing on the bed at my parents and fell off the bed. When I got back from class she was still screaming, and had been for about an hour, so we decided that we better take her to InstaCare. Of course the second we got in the door, she was running around like nothing was wrong. The admitting nurse even asked if we still wanted to be seen. But we decided we better, and were glad we did. After a lot of screaming, especially during the x-ray, because they wouldn't let Grandma come in with us. The doctor found a buckle fracture in her radius. He explained it as a tootsie roll bending. So it isn't broken all the way through. For now they just have a splint on it until the swelling goes down, and Wednesday we will get it cast. So she will have the splint on about a week, and the cast for four more weeks after that.

The first night was extremely rough, but I think we've got it mostly under control now. We've got a lot of Baby Tylenol and lots of Elmo. So I think we're set. :)

The biggest problem is she can't suck her fingers cause it is on her left hand, which frustrates her. I guess it may be a good thing in the long run, and she may stop sucking her fingers at all. But that makes me sad, that what makes her a baby in my mind. :) Silly as it may be, I will be very sad the day that happens.

Also she typically grabs things with her left hand, so she's trying to figure out how to use her right hand for everything her left used to do. But she's managing, and I'm sure that she will figure it out.

For the most part she's as happy as can be. Especially that she is getting to watch lots of Elmo. (I don't know where she picked this love of Elmo, but they are best buds)

Happy National Pie Day!

1.23.2010

Yes, we did celebrate National Pie Day, and it was fabulous! We actually celebrated for two days, with two different pies, just cause we couldn't decide.
Eric, with his favorite chocolate silk pie
Sunday, I made Buttermilk Pie that my sister made about a year ago. It was AMAZING! We highly recommend it. Find the recipe here. But leave the nutmeg out, and up the flour to just over one cup. Also use a deep pie pan. Serve warm with hot raspberry sauce, and whipped cream. It's super easy, and oh so delicious!

Hallie & Harley

1.23.2010

Last Saturday, we went over to Dave's house for a work party. Hallie was quite intrigued by their dog, Harley. She was quite nervous about her at the beginning, even though she was so much smaller than Hallie. But by the end of the night, Harley was licking a towel or something, so Hallie, all on her own, decided to brave petting her. We looked over and Hallie was sitting on the kitchen floor trying, you could tell that she was still slightly nervous, but at least she was trying all on her own. I was quite impressed that she did it with out any prompting. Unfortunately I didn't get the camera in time because it was oh so cute. But here is Hallie and Harley anyway.

Season Opener & A Yummy Banana

1.22.2010

Eric is playing on a BYU intramural basketball team with some of his friends at work. Hallie and I decided to go watch their first game on Friday night. Of course because it started so late, we had to take a yummy snack to keep Hallie contained. She asked for a banana, so we went with that. She quite obviously loved it. She is our little monkey.

She insisted on holding it herself and
She took HUGE bites
She quite enjoyed it
Yum!
Now for the basketball game...
Pre-game

Go Daddy! I was surprised how well it held her interest...at least for a little while

Patrick and Eric
You've gotta stay hydrated :)
This didn't work out too well, so she reverted back to her own

Oh so fun! Eric really does enjoy it, and it is fun to go watch.
