Add it to the list!

Today, I decided to be brave and try to give Hallie something new again. We haven't done this since we started trying new fruits, and since she had been to the allergist. I had read that barley is something that is not very allergenic, and so if you can't eat wheat to try barley. So we happen to be at Sunflower Market, and we picked up some Organic Barley Teething Biscuits. I was fairly excited thinking it was one more thing she could snack on. Between dinner and bed, we thought we'd give it a shot, that way we knew she would get a bath. It worked out perfectly too, because I had decided to make baby food tonight, so that way she could sit in her high chair, and I wouldn't be tripping over her. But, she had no more finished the first biscuit, and I go to look at her to see if she had reacted, and she had a rash all around her mouth, down her back and chest, and everywhere in between. Of course that stressed me out more than a little bit. Eric put her in the bath, and I called the pharmacy, so that they could remind me how much Benadryl to give her. Then, of course, I called my mom to see what to do. We decided to just keep an eye on it, and give her Benadryl both before bed, and wake up in the middle of the night and give it too her again. Luckily though, by the time we put Hallie to bed the rash had almost completely gone away. Hopefully it will stay that way. But we'll have to add barley teething biscuits to the list. Who knows if it is actually the barley, or something else though. The box does say it's processed in a plant that uses eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts, so there could have been some cross contamination. Either way, she can't eat it. It most definitely is not fun, and kind of scary. But I guess that is the way we have to learn sometimes.

Oh Kylie, I'm so sorry! I remember how hard that was for us too. Can Hallie do oats? Maybe you can make/find oat biscuits? I found a lot of recipes and resources online and on other people's blogs (who have allergies). Keep up the good work though, you're doing great things for that little girl!

Poor Hallie! I think that feedings are hard enough without allergies to worry about... you guys are troopers. Brayden's face turns all red (and any skin that somes in contact) when he has ranch dressing but we found out that it is a sensitivity not an allergy. Still scared me half to death the first time it happened... Good luck you guys, hopefully it will get better as she gets older!

That's very stressful! I didn't know that she had such a problem with allergies. Good luck with finding foods that are delicious, and won't cause a rash!
